Free period. Finally, Alex thought. Continuing with her usual routine, she headed up the stairs to the roof. She had never seen another person up there, and it was always good to be away from crazy fans. Throwing her pillow onto the ground, she sighed. It always felt good to have the cool breeze running through her hair, and her day hadn't been too bad so far. Flopping down, she practically fell onto her pillow. It was definitely good to feel her stream of thoughts without any interruptions.
Alex started to play with her powers. First, she made the nearby bird's voice louder. Then, she turned some of the light around her into a creamy lavender color and let it swirl around her. Even though she had seen it millions of times, it still mesmerized her. What made it even better was when she started mixing in a sky blue (the sky was gray with clouds at the time). Alex had never seen a prettier thing in her life.

AJ was on the roof petting Titanya his phoenix. She cooed softly loving the attention. Her feathers reflected the gleaming sunlight. He had heard the door open and turned to see who it was. AJ saw that a girl had entered onto the roof. It wasn't unusual to see others on the roof at different times of day since a lot of them came up here for one reason or another so he paid her no heed.
After a few minutes he noticed that Titanya started acting different. She became amazed with something in the air and AJ noticed the color of her feathers changed to a more purplish hew. As he turned to see what was attracting her attention he saw the female student from before. Around her was an ever changing aura. It swirled and passed over her, dancing like the aurora borealis. Titanya flew from his arm and over to the girl. She twitched her head investigating the phenomenon. AJ got up and called Titanya quietly, hoping not to disturb the girl.

Alex's head snapped in the direction of the noise. By now, she had quieted the bird in the distance, so it was easier for her to hear the male that was on the roof. It seemed weird; she hadn't even realized was there when she came onto the roof. Slowly, she let the lights die down and started petting the bird beside her. She wasn't quite sure she had seen one like it before. The bird had beautiful feathers. "What's your name?" Alex said, moving her attention to the other boy on the roof. She raised her voice a little with her powers, she realized that she had spoken fairly quietly and wanted to make sure she was heard.
Hearing a little rustling, Alex looked down into the courtyard. It seemed to be a romantic time, couples (or at least pairs of girls and boys) were walking and sitting on benches together. Alex realized that she wanted that, to be able to share her life with someone other than her friends. If only she could meet someone that didn't like her because of her powers. It was like a beautiful curse.

"Titanya? What did you do now?" said AJ as he looked to see that girl had gotten up. As he called her name, Titanya flew over next to the girl, landing on the railing. "Jeez you can get into so much trouble. I apologize for how my friend here acted if she woke you up. As you might've guessed her name's Titanya, mine's AJ. Again I have to say sorry if she woke you, she's got issues with personal space and can be overly curious sometimes."
AJ looked at the girl and saw a longing in her eyes. It was clear that she felt sad and looking down at what she was looking at, he could guess that it involved love. It wasn't that she was in love, it was that she longed to be loved, and AJ knew what that felt like. His magic made him afraid to get close to people. "Hey, melancholy isn't really a good look for anyone, but it seems like it's been more sunken in on you."

"I wasn't actually sleeping, and it's quite fine," Alex responded. Apparently, the student, AJ, had noticed here watching the couples below, and commented about her obvious expression. "Not to be rude or anything, but do you not recognize me?" She asked. It had been a while since she could actually introduce herself, and she was hopeful that she would be able to do it now.
As she thought about introducing herself, she recalled the first time she introduced herself to a crowd. She was a frightened fifteen year old, and she was terrified of the crowd, even if it was only big enough to fill up the small bar. After she had made it onto the make shift stage with the rest of her band, she introduced herself and the rest of her group. Together, they had come up with the pathetic name of Lighterz. First, the drummer, Donald, put of his beat. Whenever he hit his drum set, Alex made a different color light surround him. The looks on the crowds faces were priceless. Like every other crowd, they didn't pay as much attention to the music as the light.
Now, Alex pours her heart out into her lyrics, but nobody even notices. Honestly, she wishes she could just get a new start, and have nobody know about her powers. To her, her singing is the main course of the performance, but to everybody else, it's just an appetizer that they choose to push aside because they decided they didn't want to try it.

AJ looked at her, trying to figure out if she was being egotistical or if he had met her before. The tone suggested that she was important or thought she was. He knew he had seen her on the track team but figured it was from something else. There was something in her voice too, the sound of it was familiar but he couldn't place it. Thinking carefully of how to respond, he closed his eyes for a moment.
"Hmm. Well I'm usual good at remembering faces and I've seen yours before on the track team, but I can't say with any confidence what I think you're name would be. I mean I would definitely remember meeting you, you just seem like one of those people who makes a strong impression on others. So, no I do not know who you are."

AJ looked curious, as if he was trying to remember something. It was a tense moment for Alex, and she kept hoping that he wouldn't realize he did recognize her. When his answer came, she sighed in relief.
"You don't? Well, that's a relief. You can just call me Alex," she said. His compliment was very nice, and she smiled when he said it. She was also happy when he said that he recognized her from track, it meant that some people knew her for some of her other accomplishments.
Behind her back, so he couldn't see, Alex made up some foggy blue light. Even though she didn't need it, she used her finger to swirl it around. Then, she took away her hand to check her watch. Thankfully, they had plenty time left to talk.

"Well Alex it is a pleasure to meet you." AJ did a small bow with a sly grin in an attempt to make the girl laugh. "So if you weren't napping, what was a track star like you, doing making a fantastical light show on the roof." AJ ushered Titanya closer and make sure she didn't get into too much trouble. As beautiful as she was, all the people down there would make perfect targets for her to scare loving couples, even if it was just amateur teen romance.
"I must say that whatever talent you have is incredible. I mean you put light show during the day. Gotta say if that's just the tip of your power I'd love to see any other tricks you have." AJ looked at her eyes and noticed that they had a golden glow to them. Trying to avoid looking at her for to long he started to talk again. "So what else do you do, besides run fast, be your own personal light show, and admire love from afar?"

If Alex was like most girls, she probably would've blushed when AJ bowed to her. But, she wasn't most girls. Instead, she laughed. She didn't know why or how, but AJ made her feel comfortable. "It's just something I like to do; it brings me peace. The only problem is, most people care for me just because of it. They don't care for the real me," Alex said, whispering. But instead of letting her words get carried off by the breeze, she used her power, pushing the words towards AJ and making him able to hear them. "I sing. It's my favorite thing in the whole world. Most people don't care that I like to, though," Alex added on, answering his last question. "Enough about me. What about you? What do you like to do?"
