Roses Are Red {Kairi and Kai ONLY}

[Sakurai Kairi]

The warm sun shone down on the Courtyard as Kairi weaved her way through the numerous rows of blooming roses. She had been given the option to have a free 5th period, and the brunette was more than happy to take up the offer; especially since it was one of the two classes she didn't have with Ryou. There were roses of all colors and scents: Red, blue, yellow, pink, and even black. She decided to surround herself with Blue Roses, given her favorite color was blue. Sitting down on a nearby bench, Kairi gazed around the garden, mesmerized by all of the beautiful colors. By the way the roses where placed, everything seemed to blend together in an array of sunlit perfection. A warm wind blew through the Courtyard, rustling petals and winding through her hair as it rushed through. Its so beautiful here, she thought, I'm so glad I chose to not have an elective.

Reaching into her bag, the brunette pulled out her 3DS. It's not that she didn't like reading, in fact, it was the opposite, Kairi had left her book at home and wasn't permitted to leave campus during class hours. Luckily, she always kept her portable console in a small pocket on the side of her school bag. Flipping the screen up, Kairi proceeded to turn on the device. A blue light slowly turned on and the screen flashed to life with a white glow. Which game should I play today? She dug around in the bag's pocket to pull out a small collection of square disks. After looking over her choices, Kairi inserted the most recently released Pokémon game: Pokémon X. Selecting the game, the screen went black, and then a blue X flashed across the screen. She pressed the A button to choose her file and began playing. Her character was brought to a large city in the center of the Region, complete with 3D NPCs, Pokémon, and buildings. This game is so much fun, she thought, if only I had someone to play it with. . .

[Kai]

Kai was walking through the halls that seemed as if everyone was missing in the world. I'm so bored right now. All of my friends are having class while I'm being bored out here. He looked up at the ceiling, crossing his arms behind his head. "Might as well go outside and do a little 'dress up'." Kai gave a grin and rushed to his locker to get his camera. He put in the combination and snatched the camera as fast as light! He also grabbed a few costumes stashed in his locker and brought everything to the courtyard. The red head set up his camera and changed into a flowery kimono. He stood by a sakura tree and a small pond, and then set up a blanket to sit on.

The boy turned his head to spot a small brunette sitting at a bench playing on some controller. Kai stood up and chose to sneak up on the girl for a little fun. Haven't done this in a while. He gave another grin to himself and started to sneak up on her. Hiding behind trees and bushes, he got closer to her. Though he wasn't sure if she was looking back at him when he hid, or if it was his imagination. Finally Kai was crouched behind the bench quietly, not being noticed. He leaped up, and set his hands on her shoulders exclaiming, "BOO!"

[Sakurai Kairi]

A sudden loud voice and forceful hands made Kairi shriek in fear. Unintentionally, her fingers slipped, resulting in the 3DS crashing down on the tiles below. The brunette could feel tears start to form as she quickly reached down to make sure if her device was alright. She brushed around the surface, looking for any scratches or cracks, and found none. Thank God. . . Whipping around to face her attacker, Kairi could feel rage bubbling inside her. She quickly pocketed the 3DS to avoid further damage. Standing up, she glared daggers at whoever was standing there. To her surprise, the brunette's eyes met with a kimono-covered chest. What the. . ? Slowly, Kairi shifted her gaze upward, craning her neck to see the persons face. S-So tall! She took an instinctive step back to see the person's, who she assumed was a girl, face. Kairi was surprised, yet again, to discover that her attacker was a male. Why is he wearing a kimono? She wondered, feeling her anger dissipate and replaced with confusion. Kairi suddenly felt very small as she stared up at the boy, an uncomfortable silence not making it any better. The boy had a wicked grin plastered on his face. He seemed to enjoy the fact that he scared her. Is this the 3rd year that likes to cosplay? She wondered. She had heard stories of how this boy had snuck up behind unsuspecting students and scared them half to death!

Now that she was face-to-face with the boy, Kairi was terrified just to be in his peripheral vision. He could easily look down on her, and his eyes seemed to glow with a devilish hue. Unfortunately for Kairi, the sun was positioned right behind the tall boys head, casting his shadow over her. Does he play Basketball? She tried to erase the terrified look that had appeared on her face, and mostly succeeded. Glaring up at him once again, the brunette opened her mouth to speak. "You're lucky you didn't break my 3DS," she began, crossing her arms, "that thing cost me three hundred dollars, and you would have had to pay me back every penny!" In all honesty, Kairi was the lucky one. She'd owned the console since she was fourteen; a combined gift from her brother and mother. The brunette had taken it to school everyday since then, and enjoyed all of the great games she'd bought and played. It was the one thing that constantly kept her company, save for her cat and twin, and this boy had the nerve to put it in danger of being destroyed! Kairi felt her anger return will full force as she thought of what would've happened if the device had broken. All sense of civility would have left her mind, and the brunette would have most likely attacked the boy without thinking; or run away sobbing hysterically. Still glaring up at the boy, Kairi waited for an apology of some sort.

[Kai]

Kai looked down at the girl. She really IS small, wow. He wiped away the grin on his face and started to giggle to himself. He noticed that she looked at his chest, then slowly rose her head to meet his. After the mysterious girl started to yell at him, he apologized. "Sorry, sorry. It's just that I haven't done that in a while, and you were so quiet by yourself." Kai giggled once more to himself. He knelt down, took her hand, and lightly kissed it. He then looked at her for a few seconds, and pulled out his phone looking at girl cosplay outfits. Scrolling down the page he found one that thought would fit her just right. It was a dark blue, long dress. It had no sleeves and ruffles at the bottom of the dress. It came with a matching dark blue tiara that would lightly slip into her hair.

Kai held up the picture of the dark dress to the girl. "I think one would fit you just right." He gave a warm smile to her and flipped the phone back over to himself. Kai looked at the girl once again, thinking to himself, I think she would be a size large. Hope I'm not wrong. He selected the size, clicked 'Add to cart', and bought the outfit without asking for permission to. The red head slipped his phone into his pocket, then reached into his other pocket. Kai pulled out a one hundred dollar bill and handed it to her with a smile. "Here, just in case for your 3DS. You can keep it." He held it out for her to take it with patience.

[Sakurai Kairi]

Kairi could feel her face light up in a red glow as the boy knelt down to kiss her hand. From all of the stories she'd heard about him, the brunette wasn't expecting him to be such a gentleman. She watched as the boy stood up once again and pulled out his cellphone to show her something. An image of a beautiful blue dress glowed at her from the small screen of his flip phone. She was about to comment on how the dress was pretty, and that even though she liked the color, she wouldn't be caught dead wearing it, when he pulled the phone away and clicked a few buttons, obviously purchasing the item. Not wanting to be rude, Kairi silenced herself before she could object. Maybe Mom would like it. . . She suddenly felt bad for getting angry and yelling at the boy. Shoving her hands into her jacket pockets, the brunette avoided meeting the boys eyes as she tried to work out something nice to say. He's handsome, polite, has good taste in clothing, and seems to have a good sense of humor. I wouldn't mind scaring someone once in a while, she thought, a small smirk crossing her face. Even though she was scared of others her age, Kairi loved to joke around and laugh with others. Spending so much time with her brother, she had easily picked up on what made him laugh and how to evoke it. But saying all of the same things day after day had gotten boring, and Kairi would give anything to experiment with someone new.

Her attention was brought back to reality when something green was waved in her face. Looking up, she realized that the boy was trying to give her money. And after inspecting the bill, she noticed the number one hundred printed in all four corners. One hundred dollars?! Kairi was taken aback by the boys generosity. How could anyone have so much money just lying around in their pocket? Anyone with this much money must live on Castle Street. He's so lucky. . . The brunette hesitated slightly as she reached out her hand and grasped the bill, barely scrapping the boys thumb as she did so. Looking up, she saw that the boy was smiling down at her with just as much warmth as the sun. Even though the smile was warm, it froze her in place. She couldn't believe how handsome he was! Kairi could feel her blush returning as their hands continued to hold the money, neither of them moving. Why won't he let go?! Just let go! Stop smiling at me. . . Thoughts rushed through her mind as she tried to get her legs to move. She wanted to run as far away from this boy as she could and never speak to him again. I'll never stand a chance with him! He'll choose someone prettier and much more popular than me. I'm sure it'll be Kylie. . . Kairi could feel fear creep up inside her. I don't want to be around others. I don't want friends. I don't want anyone but my brother! I'm happy living with just my family! Just please, go away!

[Kai]

He saw the girl smile and blush very red. He smiled, then let go of the dollar. His phone beeped, so he pulled it out of his pocket. "Dress will be sent in three days." Kai read allowed, and smiled at the girl once more. He looked around the courtyard, gazing at all the roses and how the sunlight hit them so it looked as if they sparkled. Kai also looked at his camera and blanket under the sakura tree. "Well, I'll get back to what I was doing. Ciao!" He waved goodbye and rushed over to his camera. That girl was very cute and small. She seemed more like a tom-boy, though I bet she'd look good in a dress. Thoughts went through his head while he fiddled with his camera. Most girls here are either girly in the open, or boyish and shy. She seems to be a boyish person who can be open with others. Finally one thought came to his mind. Have I seen her before? She looks kind of familiar, now that I think about it.

Kai stopped fiddling with the camera to straiten up the blanket. He lifted it up, then slowly laid it back on the ground. That one thought went through his head over and over, until it drove him crazy. "Ugh! I'm calling Rei!" The boy pulled out his phone and flipped it open. He quickly dialed his brother's number, then heard the phone ringing. "Hello?" "Rei, it's me. I have a question." There was a small pause. "Ask away. I'll answer as best as I can." Rei responded. "Great. So, have you ever seen a girl with short brown hair, around 5'8, and likes to dress like a boy?" Kai waited for a reply. He could tell his brother was thinking really hard, making a face that would probably make Kai laugh. Finally, he answered. "Do you mean Ryou Sakurai? Cause he IS a boy." Rei laughed at his brother. "No, this is a girl. I'm not kidding!" Rei still continued to laugh, so Kai hung up. He walked up to the girl and asked, "You look very familiar, have I seen you before?"

[Sakurai Kairi]

After realizing that the boy had released his hold on the bill, Kairi was able to force herself to take out her wallet and place the money inside. She looked up as the ginger read something aloud. So he really bought the dress, she thought, sliding her wallet back into her pocket. The brunette felt oddly unhappy as the older boy walked away, and she watched as he rushed over to a camera and blanket lying under a Sakura tree. Had that always been there? Sitting back down on the bench, Kairi proceeded to play on her console again. But as she did so, the brunette could hear the boy's voice again; this time speaking to someone whom she couldn't hear. Looking over, Kairi realized that the ginger was on the phone with someone. Is he talking about me? She wondered, closing the device to hear him more clearly. 5'8?! I'm 5'9! The brunette felt slightly offended that the boy had thought she was a whole inch shorter than she actually was. Sure, he was a giant, but that didn't mean she was short! Unfortunately, Kairi was unable to hear whoever the boy was on the phone with, so she had to piece together the full conversation by what the boy was saying alone. I wish I had better hearing; then I could understand everything more clearly! But, by what she could hear, Kairi was able to deduct that whoever was on the other line thought the boy was talking about her brother. We're always together, how could they have heard of one twin and not the other?

As she was pondering this, Kairi noticed that the boy had abruptly hung up and was walking towards her again. Not wanting him to think she was eavesdropping, the brunette flipped open the screen again and began moving her character in random directions. From the corner of her eye, she watched as the boy came and stood in front of her, seemingly wanting to know something. Kairi tried to look up and meet his gaze, but the pain in her neck prevented her from doing so. Standing up, Kairi closed her device once again and placed it safely in her pocket. Finally meeting the boys eyes, she listened to his question. When could he have seen Ryou by himself? She wondered, trying to find a way to answer his question. After thinking her answer through, she spoke. "You might have seen my brother, Ryou," she explained, "We're identical twins." As she said this, Kairi began to wonder if they were really identical at all. They seemed to fool this boy, so they must have looked at least a little similar. Kairi had looked in a mirror and thought, numerous times, that it was her brother standing there instead of her. When they were little, it always felt like Ryou was her mirror; standing by her side and mirroring her every move. But thinking about her brother reminded her of a question of her own. "Ryou and I are always together. When could you have seen him by himself?"

[Kai]

"My brother and I must have seen your brother during class. Although now that I think about it, I think I've seen him in basketball practice. He's good, but shy." Kai was looking up at the tree that they were standing under. These two fooled my brother, not me though. Although the breasts kind of gave away her gender. But I never knew we had twins here! There was a short silence between the two. kai scratched the back of his head, thinking of something to say. Then something came to his mind. "Hey, how about you join me and we can cosplay and take pictures together!" He grabbed one of her hands and rushed to the other side of the courtyard where his things were.

The boy then tapped on the tree, by the blanket, in a musical way. All of a sudden a door shape figure appeared on the tree, with a knob that looked life like! Kai grabbed for the knob, turned it, then opened the door. A long coat rack full of costumes popped out of it! He looked through all the clothes and found a school girl outfit that was the twin's size. He gave her the outfit, shoved her into the tree, and closed the door. "There's enough room in there for you to get changed. Actually, there's more then enough room. Well, just get changed, and come out when your ready!" He sounded very cheerful, like a little kid. He was very eager to see her in the uniform.

[Sakurai Kairi]

Kairi felt darkness surround her as the boy closed the door. She had no idea as to how such a beautiful, life-like tree was fake; a hollow shell holding an interesting secret. Looking around, she realized that there was no light switch of any kind, just pitch black darkness. Luckily for her, a single bulb hanging from an outlet, toward the top of the trunk, lit itself, illuminating the room. Sighing with relief, the brunette looked around again. The room was far bigger than she had imagined, and the walls were lined with all sorts of cosplay outfits; male and female alike. Who knew there was so much space in such a tiny trunk, she thought, but, then again, this is Wonderland. Kairi then remembered that she held an outfit in her clenched hands. Pulling it up to look at it, she realized that it was the female uniform from the popular anime Shugo Chara. The brunette winced slightly as her gaze fell upon the skirt. Darn, why couldn't he have given me the male's uniform? She didn't want to upset the boy, so Kairi proceeded to take off her current clothing to slip on the uniform. After doing so, the brunette moved over to a mirror conveniently placed on the far wall. Her reflection looked like that of another person. She had never worn a skirt, or anything girly, in her life, and now that she was, she wasn't so sure if she wanted to. But the way the boy's voice sounded and the cheerful smile he gave her kept her from immediately taking it off. Kairi didn't want to hurt her new friend's feelings, so she took a deep breath and stuck with it. The brunette then walked over to where she thought the door should be and, tugging down her skirt slightly, pushed it open.

Natural light flooded her vision as Kairi walked nervously into the open. She was really hoping no one was going to see her like this except the boy who had forced it upon her in the first place. Standing there, the girl tugged and pulled at the skirt again, trying to lengthen it as best she could. Why are skirts in anime always so short?! She wondered, frustrated at the fact that her underwear was most likely visible. And whats this breeze rushing between my legs?! I hate this! Kairi did her best to smile up at the tall boy, who seemed extremely excited that she had complied with him. Hurry up and say something so I can take this off! She forced herself to let go of the clothing and stand up straight, striking, what she thought, a nice enough pose. She locked her hands behind her back and smiled even brighter at the boy. Blushing slightly, she asked, "how do I look?" Once again, a breeze flew through the Courtyard, slightly disturbing the still peace. It seemed like a scene in a romantic movie to Kairi: Beautiful flowers, bright sunlight, a dressed up boy, and an almost dressed up girl. And although she looked happy, Kairi could barely stand how cold her legs were. Next time, I choose the cosplay! And it better have pants! But once again, the brunette found herself unable to move. The boy looked so amazing in his beautiful kimono, that she was completely lost in his gorgeous form. I wouldn't mind staying like this forever, she thought, but I really would like some pants first. . .

[Kai]

Kai waited for the girl to change into the uniform. I just know she'll look adorable. I could tell right when I grabbed the outfit. He stared up at the tree, waiting patiently for the girl. She then walked out of the tree in the outfit and struck a simple, cute pose. 'How do I look' were the first words that came out of her mouth. But kai could tell that she was irritated by how short the skirt was. He looked at her with a charming smile and answered. "It looks beautiful on you." He kepted giving the warm smile until he chose to follow with another sentence. "Although, I bet I could pull off that look, too! Just you see." He winked at the girl and grabbed another size of the girl's uniform, then shut himself into the tree.

"You will see why I look so good in it soon!" He exclaimed from the inside of the tree. Kai took off his kimono and hung it in the closet part of the inside of the tree. He put on the shirt, socks, shoes, even the skirt! Once he was done changing, he looked into the mirror to see himself and check his outfit. Kai jumped out of the door and exclaimed, "Look how pretty I am!" The boy had a huge smile on his face from the joy he was having. Kai grabbed both of the girl's hands. "Let's take pictures and compare our outfits to see who looks best! I bet you'll win." His smile was sweet and kind. The boy then set the girl on the blanket, and went to the camera. He set the camera to timer and ran back to the blanket. "Smile and say cheese!" 'Click' went the camera, and Kai went over to receive the photo.

[Sakurai Kairi]

Before Kairi could respond, the boy disappeared inside the tree to put on another outfit. Does he ever sit still? She wondered, waiting patiently for him to return. As she began to tug on her skirt again, he reappeared in the same outfit as hers. How can he look better in a female uniform if he's a boy? The brunette allowed herself to be set on the blanket as the boy rushed over to the camera and set it. A picture?! He better not show this to anyone! Kairi really didn't want anyone to see her in such a girly outfit, especially a skirt. She briefly wondered if she should run before the photo was taken, but decided against it, for fear of making the boy sad. She stood up as he went to retrieve the photo, and, once again, pulled at her skirt. I really want to change out of this already!

Suddenly, a thought came to the girl's mind. She had never asked the boy his name! Had he even asked hers? Feeling slightly embarrassed, Kairi shuffled over to him. "Hey, I don't think I ever got your name," she murmured, staring up at him. "My name's Sakurai Kairi, but you can call me by my first name, if you like." Kairi wondered momentarily if the boy would think she was flirting. Calling somebody by their first name is something that requires a long-term friendship. Will we even be friends at all?

[Kai]

After hearing the girl, Kairi, introduce herself and ask for his name, he gladly replied. "My name is Otomi Kai, you can call me Kai, though." Then he spoke again. "Also, I already know who you are, I like to keep track of potential scare victims in my pass time." He gave a wink, signaling that he was joking about the pass time thing, then Kai realized he was still holding the photo of him and Kairi. The red-head looked down at it. She looks very cute in the outfit, it was a good choice, I guess. He smiled to himself, and looked back at the girl. He could tell that she didn't want to look like she was flirting with him, mainly because she didn't seem like that kind of person in his eyes. Kai thought it was good to not make her uncomfortable, so he made sure to keep his distance.

He looked back at the photo, still gently holding it in his hand. I think this is the first time that I don't know what to say to a girl... A cool breeze passed by the courtyard, Kai's legs felt very cold and uncomfortable, mainly since the skirt wasn't very long. He blushed, and pulled his skirt down so Kairi wouldn't see. "How about we go change now? What do you think?" He asked as the wind luckily stopped. Kai walked over to another tree nearby. He gave it a few taps, and it opened just like the last one. "I'll take this one, you can change in that one and leave the costume there." The red-head walked into the tree, closed the door, then suddenly remembered, Wait... I left my uniform in the other tree, nice one me.
