Do I Really Want To Be Here?
Words: 138 | Tagged: Kairi | Status: Complete Lavender walked along the streets with Savvy until they came to Underland Street. Hoping to find an adventure, she started down the street. For a moment she dared a glance at the dark sky above, not seeing any stars. She continued down the street, not finding any signs of a ruckus. Is this normal? She thought. She crept into a shadowy spot to wait for something to happen once she reached the dead end. The tall apartment buildings on either side of her made it seem more frightening. Again, she looked up to the sky. She loved all the different shades there were in it that night. If only there were also stars she thought. Hearing a slight noise, she slowly brought down her head to see what it was, both excited and nervous.

Feelings of fear and exhaustion flowed in waves as shoes slapped on the broken pavement below. The tall, unwelcoming buildings and clouded night sky didn't give any sign of relief as Kairi ran. The only familiar figure she saw was what she was chasing after; a grey tabby tom cat who gave no indication of slowing down. She didn't want to yell for fear of bringing unwanted, and obviously dangerous, attention. On her way home from a chat with the Librarian, Kairi noticed her cat, Sky, waiting for her near the end of the road leading toward home. But at the sight of his owner, the cat stood and, with a playful flick of his tail, darted off in the direction of Underland Avenue. Now that they had made it so far into the dead end road, Kairi was starting to fear the walk home now more than ever. Reluctantly, the brunette shapeshifted to match her cat's speed. She easily caught up to Sky now that she had been given the abilities of a cat, and tried to nip at him. Sensing his impending doom, Sky turned abruptly and fled into a nearby alley way. That flea-pelt! Kairi thought as she scrambled to catch up.
Stepping into the even darker alley, Kairi scented the air for her pet's scent. Where has he gone? As she did so, the brown cat picked up a different scent. Crap! Someone else is here! Crouching and keeping to the wall, Kairi cautiously looked around for her missing cat. It isn't like him to disappear, she thought, could something have gotten to him? With another presence here, the brown cat knew it was a bad time to shapeshift. Suppose it was a thug who would use her as a weapon? Shaking the thought out of her head, Kairi continued to search for her hidden pet. Spotting a nearby dumpster, Kairi bunched her muscles and leaped onto it gracefully. She pricked her ears in hopes of hearing Sky. Silence. Could it really be this quiet?

Do I Really Want To Be Here?
Words: 169 | Tagged: Kairi | Status: Complete Lavender was both relieved and disappointed when she found out it was just a cat. The girl held out her hand and started rubbing her fingers together, making it seem like she was offering food to lure the grey tabby over. Eventually the cat caved, and strolled cautiously over. She greeted the tabby with a warm hand and started petting her. After all, she loved cats. In fact, the teen loved all animals. Once the cat started to purr, Lavender spared a second to look at her watch. It was 10:37. As she continued petting the fluffy animal, she noticed Savvy was over sniffing at a dumpster. I hope she doesn't knock it over; it would be a pain to clean up she thought. But, Savvy was curious, as most animals are, and tipped over the dumpster. While seeing it play out in slow motion (or at least it seemed that way), she gasped. Thankfully, there wasn't anything in the dumpster. Or, at least, except a cat.

Gravity shifted as Kairi was thrown from the dumpster below her, barely managing to land safely on her paws. Feeling endangered, she fluffed up her fur in an attempt to make herself look bigger. She knew full well that someone was here; her weight alone couldn't have moved that dumpster. Kairi flicked her gaze around the dark alley way, looking for any sign of life. Finally, her eyes rested on something at the end of the alley. A person? Focusing harder, the brown cat could see that the human was familiar. Isn't that the girl who always sits in the trees in the Courtyard? She wondered, laying her fur flat. How could Kairi have not recognized her scent? Silently, she padded toward the girl, realizing that Sky was with her. I'll rip his pelt off the next chance I get! Forgetting the girl was there, Kairi quickly shifted back to her human form, putting her hands on her hips as she did so. "Sky!" She called, "I've been running down this crumby street for ten minutes trying to catch you!" The silver-and-gray tabby gave a defiant look, but quickly trotted back to his owner. He leaped onto her shoulder and, giving a last look to the blonde girl, settled in Kairi's hood. Letting out a deep sigh, Kairi the focused her attention on the other girl.
"Sorry, I hope he didn't bother you." She began, "Sky's a trouble maker, always has been, and often runs off." The brunette looked around the alley, seeing nothing but dumpsters, empty bottles, and cigarette butts. One question surfaced in her mind. Why was the girl here? Kairi suddenly felt bad that she couldn't recall her name. As her anger toward her cat melted, it was replaced by the overpowering awkwardness of the situation. The girl had seen Kairi shapeshift. Kairi quickly moved her hands from her hips and into her jacket pockets. "U-um, sorry about the shapeshifting thing. . ." She murmured, fumbling over her words, "I usually don't want people to know, so I don't shift that often." The brunette lowered her gaze to the gritty floor of the alley, watching absently as two ants fought over the crumbs of moldy bread. "Please, don't tell anyone, okay? They won't think it's a big deal, but. . ." Her words trailed off into the breeze of a sudden gust of wind. She couldn't bring herself to say any more.

Do I Really Want To Be Here?
Words: 183 (not too much, sorry) | Tagged: Kairi | Status: Complete Lavender's eyes were wide open in surprise when the other cat that had appeared turned into a human, specifically a student from her school. When the girl (she was pretty sure her name was Cary, but she wasn't positive) asked her if she could keep it on the down low, all she could do to respond was nod her head in agreement. There was a slight breeze, and event though it was only slight, she began to shiver a little. Her mind still couldn't register exactly what had happened. The girl had never heard of there actually being real supernatural abilities - she could hardly believe her eyes. Maybe she hallucinated it? Savvy came over, and Lavender realized they were about the same height, due to her squatting. After standing up, she brushed off her thighs. Her fox was going in between her legs, acting all cuddly for some odd reason. Trying to avoid eye contact, the student looked at the other girl. "Uhh, so, you're a shape shifter?" Lavender said, trying to break the tension now that she had finally found her voice.
